The college football season is pretty much over. Most coaches right now are fully entrenched in what the future holds for the program they are in charge of and they’ve moved on from this season.

But not us!

Oh no. We still have one major thing left to do before we can grab a shovel and shove some dirt on this college football season.

What is that exactly?

We have to go back and make fun of every single prediction I made a few months ago. I pride myself on my football predictions. I’m also a big believer in wearing your predictions proudly regardless of how they turned out, which is why you should always go back and re-live them. That’s exactly what we’re doing here.

With over 115+ college football programs in the FBS, it can become a bit of a chore to predict how every team will do, but that’s why I get paid the big bucks by the editor here at OoopsIFarted.com!

So without further adieu, here we are. A look back at how my predictions panned out for the 2018 college football season……

(A quick reminder that I give myself a 2-game buffer in my predictions. If my prediction comes within 2 games of how the team finishes, I consider that a successful prediction.  It’s the little victories that mean a lot guys…..)

14. UTEP Miners

utepminers

Record: 1-11

Predicted Record: 2-10

Bowl Game: No bowl game

Predicted Bowl Game: No bowl game

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! UTEP is a disaster fire right now. After going 0-12 last season, there wasn’t much hope expected for this season. I had UTEP at least winning two games, but they couldn’t achieve that lofty goal. As far as college football programs are concerned, UTEP is at the bottom of the garbage pile.

13. Rice Owls

riceowls

Record: 2-11

Predicted Record: 2-11

Bowl Game: No bowl game

Predicted Bowl Game: No bowl game

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! Back in 2013, Rice was a decent little program. They went 10-4, won the C-USA conference title and played in the Hawaii Bowl where they dominated Fresno State. Here we are five years later and Rice is a joke of a program with no hope for the future. Rice has now won just six games over the last three seasons. SIX GAMES! If you think there’s going to be an improvement next year, you’re probably just a hardcore Rice Stan.

(TIE) 12. UTSA Roadrunners

utsaroadrunners

Record: 3-9

Predicted Record: 5-7

Bowl Game: No bowl game

Predicted Bowl Game: No bowl game

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! UTSA has been a middle-of-the-road C-USA program the last few years. I expected more mediocrity out of them this season and they were even worse than we expected. Next year will be a huge year for Frank Wilson. If this team doesn’t improve, he’ll be sent packing.

(TIE) 12. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

wku_2012073118002893293863

Record: 3-9

Predicted Record: 5-7

Bowl Game: No bowl game

Predicted Bowl Game: No bowl game

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! For the longest time, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers were one of the best little programs in college football. Head coaches like Willie Taggart and Jeff Brohm built WKU into one of the most respectable non-Power 5 teams in college football. That time has passed though and no one knows what the future holds for WKU. They fired head coach Mike Sanford after a disappointing season and hired Tennessee offensive coordinator Tyson Helton to help re-build the program back up. Good luck.

10. Old Dominion Monarchs

old_dominion_monarchs

Record: 4-8

Predicted Record: 4-8

Bowl Game: No bowl game

Predicted Bowl Game: No bowl game

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! 100% spot on with this prediction. What the hell is an Old Dominion anyways?

9. Florida Atlantic Owls

florida_atlantic_owls_primary_logo

Record: 5-7

Predicted Record: 8-4

Bowl Game: No bowl game

Predicted Bowl Game: Hawaii Bowl vs. Wyoming

Nailed It or Failed It?: FAILED IT! What the hell Lane Kiffin? After his first-year of coaching at FAU, Kiffin got the Owls to double-digit wins and the arrow was pointing ridiculously high. People everywhere were convinced that Kiffin had turned FAU around and he was going to parlay that into another top head coaching gig. Well, not so fast my friends. After a sweet 11-win season last year, FAU came crashing back down to Earth this year. The Fighting Kiffins only managed five wins, missed out on a bowl game, and overall just had a stinky ass season this year. Will it get better next year? Lane Kiffin sure hopes so.

8. Charlotte 49ers

charlotte_49ers_-c-49ers-_logo

Record: 5-7

Predicted Record: 3-9

Bowl Game: No bowl game

Predicted Bowl Game: No bowl game

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! Head coach Brad Lambert did a hell of a job this year with this Charlotte team. After a disastrous 1-11 season last year, Lambert got the 49ers to 5-wins this year and barely missed out on the program’s first bowl game. You know how he was repaid? By getting fired. Lambert far and away did the best coaching job in the C-USA this season and Charlotte was convinced they could do so much better without him. Good luck with that one.

7. Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles

6024_southern_miss_golden_eagles-primary-2015

Record: 6-5

Predicted Record: 7-5

Bowl Game: No bowl game

Predicted Bowl Game: Gasparilla Bowl vs. USF

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! Since taking over as head coach of the Golden Eagles, head coach Jay Hopson has been good enough to have the team finish as a middle-of-the-road Conference U.S.A. team. In his first-year, the team went 7-6. Last year, they went 8-5. I expected more of the same this year and that’s exactly what happened. Southern Miss had no problem beating lackluster competition this season and had some close games with some very talented teams (Auburn), but close only counts as a win in horse shoes and hand grenades.

6. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs

louisianatechbulldogsd

Record: 7-5

Predicted Record: 7-5

Bowl Game: Hawaii Bowl vs. Hawaii

Predicted Bowl Game: Boca Raton Bowl vs. Temple

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! 100% spot on with this prediction. Few things in life are guaranteed, but Skip Holtz getting the Bulldogs to 7-9 wins a year is something that we’ve seen for a while now. Where’s the improvement Skip?

5. North Texas Mean Green

northtexas

Record: 9-3

Predicted Record: 6-6

Bowl Game: New Mexico Bowl vs. Utah State

Predicted Bowl Game: No bowl game

Nailed It or Failed It?: FAILED IT! Oops. I’d like to take this time to apologize to North Texas head coach Seth Littrell. He’s way better than I’ve been giving him credit for. Littrell took over in 2016 and inherited a team that went 1-11 the year before. Since then Littrell has gone 5-8 in 2016, 9-5 in 2017, and had a great year this season with another 9-3 year. I figured Littrell would take this time to bounce and go leave for a better job. As of this writing though, he’s still the head coach at North Texas and if anyone looks to gain off of that, its North Texas.

4. Marshall Thundering Herd

9640_marshall_thundering_herd-alternate-2001

Record: 8-4

Predicted Record: 8-4

Bowl Game: Gasparilla Bowl vs. USF

Predicted Bowl Game: Heart of Dallas Bowl vs. Utah State

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! Marshall has been a pretty consistent program under Doc Holliday. They faltered a little bit in 2016 when they only managed to churn up 3-victories, but Holliday quickly got them back up to the top of the conference. After going 8-5 last year, expectations were high this year. Marshall was returning nine starters on both sides of the ball and were one of the most experienced teams in the C-USA. A conference title was definitely not out-of-reach and they were only one win away from achieving that very goal. Close, but no cigar this season Marshall.

3. Florida International Panthers

fiu-panther-371x262

Record: 8-4

Predicted Record: 6-6

Bowl Game: Bahamas Bowl vs. Toledo

Predicted Bowl Game: New Mexico Bowl vs. Buffalo

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! Hell of a coaching job this season by Butch Davis man. After getting FIU to 8-wins in his first-season as head coach of the Panthers, everyone was interested in what Davis could do for an encore. Was last year an anomaly or did Davis still have some magic in that old coaching hat he found? He answered that question with ANOTHER eight-win season! For the first time in as long as I can remember, FIU finishes with back-to-back eight-wins season and the momentum is riding high right now. If he has another fantastic season next year, Davis may be making a return to a Power Five team near you.

2. Middle Tennessee Blud Raiders

middle-tennessee-state-blue-raiders

Record: 8-5

Predicted Record: 6-6

Bowl Game: New Orleans Bowl vs. Appalachian State

Predicted Bowl Game: New Orleans Bowl vs. Troy

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! Yeah, I was two-victories off of getting this prediction 100% perfect. Middle Tennessee has been a decent little team under Rick Stockstill and with 17 starters returning this year, this team was expected to be pretty good. I had them finishing as a 6-6 team and making the New Orleans bowl vs. a Sun Belt team. They actually finished 8-5 and made the New Orleans bowl where they are facing a Sun Belt team.

1. UAB Blazers

uab

Record: 10-3

Predicted Record: 8-4

Bowl Game: Boca Raton Bowl vs. Northern Illinois

Predicted Bowl Game: Bahamas Bowl vs. Toledo

Nailed It or Failed It?: NAILED IT! This one makes me happy. Back in 2013, a bunch of rich assholes got together and decided they needed to drop the UAB football program. The school was getting rid of football and it’s student-athletes who were currently on scholarship were left scrambling to find a place to finish their college football careers. It was a horrible look for college football and everyone felt bad for the players. That didn’t last long though. Football was only off of UAB’s radar for two seasons before the team came back last year with a boom. Everyone thought UAB would be a dumpster fire last year and they shocked everyone by rattling off 8-wins and making a bowl game. What could this team do for an encore this year? Well, they could reach DOUBLE-DIGIT WINS, WIN A CONFERENCE TITLE, & MAKE A BETTER BOWL THAN THEY DID LAST YEAR! Yes everyone. UAB getting rid of football was a GREAT decision as we saw this season. Way to go boys. You deserved it.
