The Super Bowl.

Every NFL team wants to win it.

Every NFL fan wants their favorite team to win one.

In this article, I make an argument for every single NFL team winning the Super Bowl next year.

Oh, and also why they won’t win the Super Bowl next year. Because not everything can be positive around these parts…..

Why Your Favorite NFL Team Will/Won’t Win The Super Bowl In 2018

Arizona Cardinals

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: It was just a few years ago that the Cardinals had one of the best rosters in the NFL. Well folks, they still have a very talented roster and with a successful off-season and a good draft, the Cardinals should be right back up in the conversation. Carson Palmer is coming back and as long as he’s throwing for over 4,000 yards a season….the Cardinals will have a shot. Don’t count these guys out yet people.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: You can go ahead and bury these guys, they’re done. They still have a very talented roster, but they aren’t winning a Super Bowl in its current form. Carson Palmer is 37 years old and he’s an old 37-year-old. Can you really count on this guy to take you deep into a playoff run? And what about Bruce Arians? There were rumors that he was contemplating retirement. How much is he invested in it all? This team isn’t winning the Super Bowl next year. They’ll be lucky to make the playoffs.

Atlanta Falcons

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: They were close this year. If it wasn’t for their utter miserable collapse in the second half of the Super Bowl, the Atlanta Falcons would have won the franchise’s first ever Super Bowl. But no, the Patriots are one of the hardest teams to beat for a reason. Now the Falcons need to take all this post-season momentum and ride it into a great off-season avoiding any kind of roster disasters. For a team that was THIS close to winning a Super Bowl this year, it shouldn’t be that hard for them to win one next year.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: It’s going to be extremely difficult for the Falcons to make it back to the big game next year. For one, they just lost their key offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan to the 49ers and great coaching is one of the most important things in the NFL (Shanahan is largely the reason Matt Ryan played like an MVP this season). That’s going to hurt them. They are also going to get hurt by having to play a more difficult schedule (the perk of winning your division) and that DREADED SUPER BOWL HANGOVER. Oh, you don’t think the Super Bowl hangover is a real thing? Go talk to the Carolina Panthers.

Baltimore Ravens

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Joe Flacco. You laugh, but look up the stats. In the past 15 years or so, there have only been 4 quarterbacks that have represented the AFC in the Super Bowl. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Joe Flacco. If you’re going to lay money down on an AFC team to play in the Super Bowl, it’s a safe bet to throw it down on one of those guys’ teams. Plus, the Ravens seem to come out of nowhere and win the Super Bowl every few years or so.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Joe Flacco. Flacco posted some of his best numbers this past season, but he’s been unable to capture that magic that he had in the 2012 post-season where he was absolute FIRE (11 touchdowns, 0 interceptions). I just don’t have a lot of faith in this guy anymore until he proves me wrong once again.

Buffalo Bills

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Here’s a scenario for you. Let’s say the Bills let Tyrod Taylor walk this off-season and decide to bring in Tony Romo. Let’s say Tony Romo has a chip on his shoulder and wants to make the NFL pay next season. Let’s also say that the Bills go back to playing shutdown defense and become one of the top defenses in the NFL again. Let’s also say that the rest of the league just isn’t very good. Then and only then will the Buffalo Bills be considered Super Bowl contenders next season.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: They’re the Buffalo Bills. They haven’t even MADE the playoffs in almost 20 years. Forget winning a playoff game…..the Bills can’t even make the damn playoffs! How do you expect to win in the post-season if you can’t even make it there?

Carolina Panthers

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: A few years ago the Denver Broncos were embarrassed in the Super Bowl by the Seattle Seahawks. They came back a few years later and did the same thing to the Carolina Panthers. Who’s to say the same thing couldn’t happen to the Panthers this season? If Cam Newton can re-capture the magic he displayed during the 15-16 season, then like Kevin Garnett said….anything is possible. Carolina is still a very talented football team who experienced a down year in 16-17. They should bounce back next season.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: This team isn’t going to bounce back next season. Cam Newton regressed at an alarming rate last season after a horrendous showing in Super Bowl 50. He is done as far as being an elite player is concerned. His ceiling has peaked and so have the Panthers. You had your chance and you blew it. Let’s blow it all up and start over again.

Chicago Bears

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Jay Cutler should be gone next season…..FINALLY! That alone is enough to make the Chicago Bears “Super Bowl Contenders”.

Why They Won’t Make The Super Bowl: They don’t have a QB. Say what you want about Jay Cutler. Yes, the guy is an awful teammate. Yes, the guy has a face that you want to destroy with your fists. And yes, the guy looks like he’s miserable all the time. However, he’s actually a decent QB when called upon and he’s better than a lot of other options out there. If the Bears don’t have a back-up plan, it wouldn’t shock me to see Cutler re-sign with them. Wouldn’t that piss Bears fans off?

Cincinnati Bengals

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Have you ever been so bored that you found a hole in a fence and continuously threw rocks at it in hopes of finally getting a rock through that damn hole? That’s the Cincinnati Bengals and the NFL playoffs. The Bengals have had A LOT of rocks over the years, but they miss every time they throw one at that damn hole. Well, eventually a rock is going to go through…..right? The Bengals have had such miserable luck in the post-season, that it has to turn at some point. Marvin Lewis is going to channel his inner-Bill Belichick and go on an amazing playoff run next season.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Marvin Lewis.

Cleveland Browns

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: The other 31 teams all forfeit.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: They’re the Cleveland Browns.

Dallas Cowboys

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: For the majority of this past NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys were widely considered the best team in the NFL. Unfortunately their season was cut short when they ran into the juggernaut known as Aaron Rodgers, but that’s life. With a solid off-season the Cowboys should be right back in the conversation and could be even better than they were this last season. Dak Prescott is going to get a whole off-season of workouts as the #1 guy, so he will continue to develop. If Dallas can swap Tony Romo for a top pick in this year’s draft, even better. Dallas has a great roster and are just a few pieces away from potentially having the best overall roster in the NFL.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: I like the Cowboys roster. I really do. The one thing I really don’t like about Dallas is their head coach Jason Garrett. There’s no proof that Garrett is the man for this job. He was basically gift-wrapped the job from Jerry Jones seven years ago and his overall record is just slightly over .500 with a 1-2 record in the playoffs. The head coach position is one of the most important in the NFL. If the Cowboys regress next season, you’ll know exactly where to look.

Denver Broncos

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Denver is just two years removed from being Super Bowl champions. Since that time, the Broncos have lost their starting QB (Peyton Manning) and their head coach (Gary Kubiak) because that’s how quick things can change in the NFL. What they still have though is that scary elite defense that with the right coaching, should be able to climb back to the top of the league. New head coach Vance Joseph is a defensive guy and the results next year could be scary for the rest of the league.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Are you kidding me? The Broncos run is over. This team has just lost too much to overcome the odds and make it back to the Super Bowl. It’s one thing to lose your starting QB, but it’s another thing to lose your head coach as well. Vance Joseph was a good hire by Denver, but he’s NEVER been a head coach on any level and that concerns me. Plus, Trevor Siemian is their QB. Let that one sink in.

Detroit Lions

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: I like the Lions roster. I really do. They have a QB that could probably win you a Super Bowl and they don’t have a whole lot of weaknesses. They made the playoffs this year and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them potentially take a huge step forward next year. Consistency is one of the most underrated things in the NFL and Detroit has that going for them at the moment.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Come on now. The Detroit Lions haven’t won a playoff game since Seinfeld was starting on TV. Does that seem like a long time ago? Because it is. The Lions have a talented roster, but they aren’t winning the Super Bowl as long as Jim Caldwell is calling the shots. They also aren’t winning the Super Bowl as long as their name is the “Detroit Lions”.

Green Bay Packers

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Aaron Rodgers

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Their defense. Green Bay ranked towards the bottom of the league in both yards allowed and points allowed. It’s no secret that their secondary was absolutely atrocious this past season. If the Packers have any kind of Super Bowl hopes next year, they need to reconstruct this defense. It’s not going to work out in its current form.

Houston Texans

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Brock Osweiler takes a space pod to the planet of Dagobah. Once there, he finds an old NFL QB in exile (Joe Montana) who shows him the ways of the position. Brock returns to Earth and becomes the greatest QB the sport has ever seen.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Brock Osweiler.

Indianapolis Colts

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Andrew Luck is the best young QB in the league. New GM Chris Ballard has an eye for talent that is unmatched. He quickly fills the Colts roster with decent players (something Indy has lacked the last few years) and Luck has an MVP-like year as the Colts go on to win the first of multiple Super Bowl titles. Someone has to take the reins from Tom Brady once he retires in a few years. My money is on Andrew Luck stepping up and snatching that title rather quickly.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: New GM Chris Ballard has a lot of work in front of him. If Indianapolis didn’t have Andrew Luck on their roster, these guys would be competing with the Cleveland Browns for the WORST ROSTER IN FOOTBALL! It’s likely going to take a season, or two, or three for the Colts to get the right players in place. I expect it to happen rather quickly, but expecting it to happen next year? That’s a pipe dream.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: The Jaguars were a popular pick to make the playoffs about a year ago. They had a young roster with a lot of talent on it. They should have exploded onto the league, but something happened and it all went sideways. Gus Bradley is gone now and the Jaguars have brought in Doug Marrone and Tom Coughlin to change the culture around. Maybe these are the guys that get this team’s fortunes changed around? I’ve seen crazier things happen.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Blake Bortles.

Kansas City Chiefs

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Ever since Andy Reid joined the Kansas City Chiefs, the Chiefs have been one of the most winning teams in the NFL. They got their first playoff win in over 25 years a few seasons ago and last season they won the AFC West for the first time in six years. What’s the next step for the Chiefs? How about an AFC Championship followed by a Super Bowl win? Crazier things have happened.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Alex Smith. Smith is a serviceable QB in the NFL and will win you games. However, the guy is extremely limited as far as a QB is concerned and if a team is able to put up points on the Chiefs, does anyone have any faith that Alex Smith can rally a comeback? No. Because he’s limited. If the Chiefs want to take the next step in the NFL, they need a gun-slinger. Alex Smith is the opposite of that.

Los Angeles Rams

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Jeff Fisher is finally gone, so that means that 7-9 and 8-8 are no longer guaranteed to happen at the end of the season. You may not know this because of how they perform on a weekly basis, but the Rams have a pretty solid roster, especially on the defensive side of the ball. If they can put together some more solid offensive pieces and can get something of note out of the quarterback position….the Rams will win the Super Bowl next year.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: The Rams will win the Super Bowl next year once we also figure out how to make money grow on trees and pigs fly. Has anyone checked the temperature in hell lately? If it’s frozen solid, I would say the Rams have a great shot at hoisting the Lombardi Trophy next season.

Los Angeles Chargers

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: The Chargers and Phillip Rivers are so hyped to be in their new home that they just go on a roll and destroy everyone. Sometimes it just takes a little change in scenery to rejuvenate a person and/or a team. The Chargers will want to show Los Angeles that they are the team they should be cheering, not the Rams. How do you do that? By bringing a Super Bowl title to the city in your first season. Bank on it.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Are you kidding me? The Chargers don’t even have a home and you expect them to be Super Bowl contenders next season? Sure, they’re playing their games in Los Angeles, but the town wants nothing to do with them. Think about that for a second. How is that going to make these guys feel next year? This could get really ugly before it ever even lifts off.

Miami Dolphins

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Baby steps people. Baby steps. The Dolphins made the playoffs last year for the first time in 8 years. That was step one. Step two is to have a tremendous off-season and continue to develop as a squad. Adam Gase has his boys motivated and next year is not only the year the Dolphins knock off the Patriots as kings of the AFC East, but the Dolphins shock the world and win the whole damn thing. A team has to lose in the playoffs in order to get better and Miami got their butts handed to them by the Steelers in the Wild-Card round this season. These guys are going to come back more motivated than ever next season.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: They aren’t knocking the New England Patriots off of their throne quite yet, I’m sorry. As long as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are dominating the league, it’s going to be next to impossible for Miami to take that next step. The Patriots are a steak house and the Dolphins are fast food. Yes, they’ll fill you up and get the job done sometimes. But there’s also a chance they give you a stomach ache followed by some diarrhea. No one wants that.

Minnesota Vikings

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Minnesota started out 5-0  last season and looked like the best team in the NFL. Then they completely shit all over themselves and everything fell apart. Well, what if the sources are wrong and Teddy Bridgewater is able to make a healthy return next season? What if Bridgewater’s return motivates the Vikings to play like the 5-0 team that started out last season? If that happens, Minnesota isn’t only making a return to the playoffs….they’re winning it all. The Vikings have a solid roster, but they lack consistent quality play out of the QB position. Fix that and they might be hoisting a trophy in a year’s time.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: The QB position. For one, Teddy Bridgewater likely isn’t playing next season and may not ever play again. Even if he was healthy, I don’t think he’s good enough to quarterback a team to the Super Bowl. That leaves Sam Bradford at QB with a cap hit of $18,000,000. Yowzers. That is reason alone to not like the Vikings chances to win the Super Bowl next year.

New England Patriots

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Because they’re the New England Patriots. It’s what they do.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Tom Brady and Bill Belichick decide to go clubbing to celebrate their latest Super Bowl win. Well, Bill has a little too much to drink and gets into a big fight with a group of Jets fans. They beat the crap out of him. Bill drives to prison, breaks out Aaron Hernandez and they go back and murder all the Jets fans. Bill goes on the run to Mexico with Hernandez and they change their names to “Rex Ryan” and “Erin Hernandez”. They eventually lead Mexico to 6 consecutive World Cup titles.

New Orleans Saints

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: They have Drew Brees and Sean Payton. You never count those two guys out as far as I’m concerned. Also, there’s been an NFC South team in the Super Bowl for two consecutive seasons now, so why not make it three? The Saints are my personal favorite longshot team to make the Super Bowl next season and we’ve seen crazier things happen in our lifetime.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: The Saints are absolute garbage on defense. Just plain garbage. They were sixth worst in the league in yards allowed and second worst in the league in points allowed. In case you didn’t know….that’s not good at all. It would take a miracle for New Orleans to revamp this defense in just one off-season. The New York Giants managed to do it last off-season, but does anyone have faith that the Saints will be able to pull off the same kind of feat?

New York Giants

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Because Eli Manning manages to shock everyone and win a Super Bowl ring every few years. Isn’t it about that time again?

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Ben McAdoo. Are we sure this guy is a good head coach? I’m still on the fence myself. The Giants were a pretty good team this last season (they beat the Cowboys twice!), but they absolutely fell apart when it mattered the most in the playoffs and that’s on the head coach. Can McAdoo get these guys to take that next step and earn a playoff win? I’m highly skeptical and I need to see it happen before I jump on board with this version of the Giants.

New York Jets

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Tony Romo signs with the Jets in the off-season. He manages to stay healthy all-year and has one of the best years of his career. He gives Tom Brady the middle finger in the AFC Championship game and leads the Jets to victory. They go on to face the Cowboys in the Super Bowl and Romo is ultra-motivated. He leads the Jets to a 30-13 win over his former team and punches Jerry Jones in the nuts on TV.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Because they suck.

Oakland Raiders

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Don’t look now, but the Raiders have quietly put together one of the NFL’s best rosters. If it wasn’t for an injury to Derek Carr last season, the Raiders may have been able to give the New England Patriots a fight for the AFC title. What if Oakland is able to stay healthy all of next season though? Would you be shocked to see Carr lead the Raiders back to the promise land? I sure as hell wouldn’t.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Yes, the Raiders have a great young roster, but they still aren’t a Super Bowl team in my eyes. Derek Carr has proven he’s a formidable QB, but there was a game against the Chiefs last season that went down as one of the worst games an NFL QB has ever had. He looked dreadful and that scares me. Plus, we’ve never seen this team get any taste of post-season glory. You can’t just go and win a Super Bowl with no post-season wins under your belt. That’s pretty much unheard of.

Philadelphia Eagles

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Carson Wentz turns his game up in year two and becomes one of the best QB’s in the league. Philly not only unseats the Dallas Cowboys at the top of the NFC East, but they also go on to stomp the rest of the NFC and dethrone the Patriots at Super Bowl 52. It’s amazing what a young franchise QB can do to your NFL team. The Eagles are not a bad roster at all and if they can continue to develop and if Doug Pederson can stop being a shitty head coach….the above scenario could very well happen.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: C’mon now. Carson Wentz had a good rookie season, but there are still a lot of holes in his game to work on. To me, he looks like a more polished version of Alex Smith right now. He definitely has time to change that perspective and he can do so in year two. I’m also not a fan of head coach Doug Pederson. I feel like the Eagles are trying to re-capture the magic of the Andy Reid years and since they can’t have Andy, they took his offensive coordinator (who didn’t even call plays, mind you) and are finding out that he’s nowhere near as good a coach as Andy is.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Pittsburgh got spanked in the AFC Championship game, but at least they made the AFC Championship game. That’s more than a lot of other teams can say. If Ben Roethlisberger does come back and he plays with a little bit of a chip on his shoulders, the Steelers could be even scarier than usual. Like I mentioned earlier, there have only been 4 QB’s in the AFC that have represented the AFC in the Super Bowl the last 15 years. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Joe Flacco, and Roethlisberger. Bet your money on one of those guys.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: They definitely won’t be anywhere near Super Bowl contenders if Roethlisberger decides to retire. They still are far from a guarantee to be a Super Bowl contender even if he does come back. In the eyes of a lot of NFL insiders, there is trouble brewing in the Steelers locker room. Why else would Roethlisberger be hinting at retirement when guys like Tom Brady and Drew Brees are saying that they are going to play until they’re 50? Because Big Ben is sending Pittsburgh a message. The Steelers are starting the season out with drama and it could get even uglier as time rolls on.

San Francisco 49ers

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: The 49ers find out a way to clone Joe Montana and Jerry Rice and the NFL allows them to play.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: HAVE YOU SEEN THEM PLAY LATELY?

Seattle Seahawks

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Seattle has been out of the Super Bowl picture the last few years, but you still can never count these guys out. With Russell Wilson, Pete Carroll, and that defense, the Seahawks will always be considered Super Bowl favorites heading into the season.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Plenty of reasons. First, their offensive line is one of the worst in the league and it’s going to take more than one off-season to fix. Second, Earl Thomas was contemplating retirement a few months back. Where is his head at? And on top of that, you have all of these dynamic personalities who are fighting on the sidelines every other week with each other. It’s ridiculous and changes need to be made if these guys want to win another Super Bowl trophy anytime soon.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: The Buccaneers were one of the surprise teams of the NFL last season. They came out of nowhere and just missed the playoffs with a 9-7 record and Jameis Winston continues to look like he’s going to eventually blossom into one of the NFL’s best QB’s. If that happens next season, the Bucs could be the next NFC South to team to make the Super Bowl. Only this time, they are going to pull off the miracle and walk away with the win.

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Tampa Bay was a cute little story last year, but let’s get real. The Bucs haven’t made the playoffs since 2007 and haven’t won a playoff game since winning the Super Bowl back in 2002. Let’s focus on winning a playoff game before we get really carried away with the expectations in “Jameis-World”.

Tennessee Titans

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Marcus Mariota is going to go down in history as the greatest QB to ever play this game, with all apologies to Tom Brady. Next year will be the first of Mariota’s 10 Super Bowl trophies that he’s going to end his career with. It’ll be awesome!

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Marcus Mariota gets injured.

Washington Redskins

Why They Will Win The Super Bowl: Kirk Cousins finally gets his long-term contract and plays his ass off and takes his game to another level. He gets the Redskins to a 10-6 record and they go on a deep playoff run that concludes with a shocking Super Bowl victory. YOU LIKE THAT?

Why They Won’t Win The Super Bowl: Ahh, who are we kidding? Even if the Redskins bring back Cousins (and they should), there’s no proof that the guy has what it takes to be an elite NFL QB. He doesn’t have a playoff win yet and his record against teams with winning records is spotty at best. Does anyone really have faith that Kirk Cousins can lead a franchise to a Super Bowl trophy?

Thank you for reading. See you in seven months with the hunt for the SUPER BOWL TROPHY BEGINS AGAIN!!!
